According to technology blog 9to5Mac reports, Apple would begin offering iOS 5 software wireless upgrades this autumn. In addition to Apple TV, all of Apple iOS equipment system would upgrade through the iTunes. When an update is released, each time the user connected the device to the computer with a USB cable, and then click Update, and then download and install the new software. And other smart phone manufacturers had begun to provide much more convenient wireless upgrade. When Google Android system, or Palm WebOS system update was released, users would receive updates remind, and then directly complete the upgrade on the phone, without using a computer.

Apple iPhone is now also want to provide this convenience, ready to begin to provide wireless upgrades this fall. Apple TV system have been able to upgrades without iTunes, so key questions points to iOS.

There are two points worth noting:

  1. Updates are generally more than 600MB. Apple must reduced updates, allowing the operator to push updates. They believed Apple would allow users to simply download the updated content without having to download the entire operating system by the way of incremental update.
  2. ITunes provide backup for iOS, use when upgrade failure. Apple may use cloud backup system. Obviously, if iOS 5 has this feature, iPad and iPod touch should also be used. This means that we may no longer need use iTunes to upgrade in the future, but also means that the iPad finally become a independent device.
